MONDAY SESSION 1 – 9.30

M311 POETRY READING GRAEME LINDRIDGE
Read poems you like and ones you remember. Recite any verses that tickle your fancy or maybe a song or a rhyme that you've written.

M312 WATER ISSUES DAVID LEAMAN
How wet is Tasmania? What limit does our climate and hydrology impose on our way of life and future? Is the food bowl for real? You may find policy-makers have already erred. A text will be provided.

M313 ONCE UPON A TIME MICKEY BENEFIEL
This course will feature the ILLUSTRATIONS that flourished during THE GOLDEN AGE OF CHILDREN'S LITERATURE. The artist's history, the origins of the stories and their authors will be covered, along with some of the tales themselves. Members of the class may be asked to participate on a voluntary basis.

M314 PAINTING – TWO SESSIONS PAT OLDING
(facilitator)
This group is self-led and works mainly with watercolour but includes sessions using pencil, pen, pastels and acrylics. Each new topic is introduced by a member of the group. Session 1 is a continuation from last term. New members are welcome in session 2 when there will be members ready to assist them.
Class limit 16.

M315 VOLCANIC EARTH ALBERT GOEDE
The first three lectures will be dealing with the nature of volcanic land forms and processes. This will be followed by sessions dealing with historical eruptions such as Santorini, Vesuvius, Krakatoa, Mount Pelée and others will.

M321 WRITERS WORKSHOP COLIN PYEFINCH
An opportunity for those who enjoy writing (or would like to) to share their efforts in a friendly atmosphere of mutual support and encouragement.

M322 CARBON TO DNA JOHN COLL
From carbon ( Coal, Diamond, Carbon fibre) to DNA ( Genetic material in most life forms). Each step will introduce new Organic molecules important to your daily life. No prior chemical knowledge presumed.

M323 TRIVIA PATRICIA & TONY DOMIGAN
Test your world-of-knowledge skills in a friendly and competitive quiz. Teams are encouraged.

Patricia and Tony are a couple of trivia enthusiasts.

M325 LINE DANCING JILL CANTON
Very good for the mind and body as every dance is different. Come along and give it a try but most of all come along and enjoy yourself.

Jill has been doing line dancing for over 20 years and has been teaching it for 14 years.

This term we are continuing to read and discuss articles, plus role-play.

M333 ASTRONOMY AND SPACE SCIENCES: UPDATES AND ODDITIES PETER TAYLOR
A perusal of the science of astronomy and the results of the research programs and technology providing us with incredible images and data.

Peter, a keen amateur in the world of space flight and astronomy, had worked at the Canberra NASA Deep Space Tracking Station as an explainer.

M334 BEGINNING PAINTING ALLISON BENDER
A basic training course including colour design, mediums and applications. Students will need to provide their own materials which will be discussed at the first class.

M335 TAI CHI MARY NEWMAN
Tai Chi is an effective art form that has been proven to strengthen both body and mind, and is considered suitable for anyone of any age.

M336 ESPERANTO ROBERT BUDZUL
Esperanto is an easy language to learn. It has only 16 rules of grammar - none of which have exceptions. Esperanto has also proven to be a good foundation for learning languages in general.

W311 YOUR INNER FISH HELEN LAWRENCE
This is one of the "Great Courses". The author, Neil Shubin's exuberance for his work on fossil fish they crawled out of the ocean and learnt to live on land has been called 'magisterial'. His team's work in the Arctic in Canada relates to us all.

W312 GREAT PAINTERS (6 weeks) CECILIA WOOTTON
This is a continuation from Term 2 and covers the last nine lectures by Professor Kloss of the Smithsonian Institution. The paintings discussed are by artists from the 19th century onwards, including Turner, the Impressionists, Matisse, Munch, Picasso and many more. A wonderful opportunity to have these works explained. There is no need to have come along in Term 2.

W313 WHO WOULD BE A NURSE? (4 weeks) JANE HALL
A look at nursing from an historical and modern perspective. How did nursing originate? How did it evolve? Coupled with hopefully a laughter-filled series of anecdotes to illustrate the day to day life of a nurse.

W314 AUSTRALIAN NOTEWORTHY, NOTORIOUS OR ECCENTRIC PERSONALITIES PATRICIA CORBY
The selection of people is a mixed bag, some will be known, e.g. Neil Davis, some probably will not, e.g. a hero of the Falklands War currently living in Tasmania. From nuns who fly to carry out their work, to outback pub owners, unofficial poet laureate, wartime nurse, one wrongly convicted of murder, to flying ace and specialist surgeon – to me they all hold interest and this interest I would like to share with you.

W323 THE QUINTESSENTIAL ENGLISH VILLAGE EILEEN LEVETT
Idyllic thatched cottages; village greens, willow trees and duck ponds; cricket pitches and pubs. All a romantic dream?travel through history to find how the English village actually developed:- experience an archaeological dig; roam and old Roman road; sup with the Saxons; mingle at a Mediaeval market; try your hand at thatching; and of course – taste warm beer and a cold pie in the local pub!

This is a continuing course so new students should have a basic knowledge of the language.

Classical music over 1500 years using LP records and cassettes tapes. Musical appreciation and discussion of techniques.

Hear about this fascinating family all away from Mary Anne Clark, mistress of the Duke of York to George the Punch cartoonist,Gerard the actor, Daphne the writer and her two sisters, illustrated with some films of some of Daphne's well-known novels such as Rebecca, Frenchman's Creek and Jamaica Inn.

Enjoy losing yourself in reading the part of a different character. No experience necessary – just a voice!

W335 CIRCLE DANCING KRISTA SANDS
Easy to somewhat more challenging dances from various cultures. Good gentle exercise that builds grey matter and grace.

W336 CHESS SELF-DIRECTED
The aim of the course is to assist new and those familiar with the game to better understand the beauty of the game and to encourage improvement to all with the main aim of enjoyment coupled with social interaction.
