M111 ALL THAT JAZZ JACK LICKISS
From Buddy Boldon to Ornette Coleman, the story of Jazz is the story from Lascaux to Jackson Pollock in 50 years. From Miles Davis to Wynton Marsalis, it is the story from Pollock back to Lascaux in 40 years. The story is told with the help of videos, CDs and lively discussion. Relive your youth – Benny Goodman and all.

Intermediate class for those who have done French in the past and want to retrieve what they knew XXX years ago and go further. Content flexible in response to students' demands. We believe in plenty of spoken French, but we also believe (unfortunately) in grammar and that these are mutually indispensable. We also have fun!

Visiting speakers discuss strategies for making the most of the Third Age, e.g. housing options, right use of medicines, services you can call on. Come and share your ideas on ways to remain active and independent.

An introductory course that will include basic grammar and structure of the language, pronunciation, situational conversation spiced with intermezzi of the history and culture of the Italian people.

Read in French passages from popular novelists (e.g. Henri Troyat. Françoise Sagan) and more serious authors (e.g. Albert Camus, Simone de Beauvoir). There will be some discussion of major literary movements.

We all care about forests, but how critically have we evaluated popular notions concerning forests and forestry? The slanging match that currently substitutes for rational debate doesn't help this process. You will be challenged to seek some answers with a facilitator who has spent more than 30 years in native forest research.

The group continuing this term is at a standard approximating the 4th year of a traditional 'Lecture Expliqué' – grammar exposition course.

M134 ANGLO-SAXON ENGLAND BARRY REYNOLDS
In the mid 5th Century CE barbarian tribes of Angles, Saxons and Jutes began invading Britain. Over the next 600 years they spread their dominance over the land. This is an account of that period and its noteworthy players, including Aethelbert, Augustine, Bede, Alfred and Canute.

An introduction to a thousand years of art-making in Europe from late antiquity to the Renaissance. The focus will be on painting, sculpture and architecture in Spain, France and Italy.

W132 HISTORY OF SOUTH AFRICA: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE APARTHEID STATE RICHARD DAVIS
Looks at the history of South African race relations from the arrival of the Dutch and English to the end of the Apartheid state and the establishment of majority rule.

W133 UNDERSTANDING ARCHITECTURE TODAY BARRY McNEILL
Everyone has an opinion on architecture-but how informed is it? This course traces the history of architecture from ancient times with an emphasis on the 19th and 20th centuries and local examples. Local architects will also present and explain their current work.
   

W134 ISSUES IN AUSTRALIA'S FOREIGN POLICY DEREK VERRALL
Making foreign policy; security, economic, legal, moral and cultural dimensions of foreign policy. Various topical issues such as Australia's response to international terrorism, policy on refugees etc.
