C GRADE - 2010 — President's message

Some of our members would be aware that in years past we have had three levels of competition - A Grade, B Grade and C Grade. A few years ago we had a 6-team competition in C Grade, with teams of five and approximately 42 players involved.

Sadly this competition declined to the extent that it was no longer viable and it was decided to merge the C Grade players into the B Grade competition.

The Board of Management is aware that some of the players currently competing in B Grade are playing "above their weight" and are struggling to be competitive. A proposal was put to the Board to have a separate, unofficial competition for lower rated B Grade players, on Tuesday nights, to be known as C Grade.

This competition is up and running, with 10 players currently playing six-red snooker frames, with each player competing against the other nine. Scores are being kept and collated, with each player being given a C Grade rating. All matches are played at Claremont RSL, starting at 6.30 pm and concluding about 9.45 pm.

The aim is to encourage people currently not playing at all to join in, learn the rules, obtain the skills necessary to make them competitive and allow them the opportunity to play against people of their own ability.

So far it has been an outstanding success, with four of the 10 being newcomers to the sport. More importantly is played without the pressures of Monday nights and is regarded as a "fun night."

If you know of anyone who would qualify for this competition and would like to play on Tuesday nights, please get them to contact me at home:
